The Bauman Field Display - Page Four

In from the driveway, near the pivot, one of the Mirron Bros. Farm’s hire-hands has just “dropped off” their John Deere 9520 and 9-shank Sunflower disk ripper for the next day’s tillage of the field. I’ve wanted a big wheeled JD 4wd for some time now, so I’m glad to of finally completed this one recently. The weights and glass cab on the tractor really stand out.

Roven Farm’s New Holland TJ425 and Sunflower coulter chisel is headed home after chiseling up a sweet corn field that has recently been harvested. The TJ series of tractors are by far my favorite modern 4wd tractors. I had made this TJ some time ago out of the Scale Models TJ toy, using a cab from an Ertl STX.

The centerpiece of the display, and most exciting for me, is the dark red kidney bean harvest. There is a small corner in northwestern Wisconsin were a handful of farms grow dark red kidney beans. This is the only area of the state that I know of that grows dry edible beans. In early fall of 1998, after serving four years in the active Air Force, I temporally worked for one of the largest growers of kidney beans in that area. For about a month, that fall, I drove a Bob Model 666 Bean King combine back and forth across the fields.
