Back From the Big Show III
By Jason Hasert
We are back from the 2005 National Farm Toy Show. Toy Farmer Magazine and its staff did an excellent job hosting the show in its 28th year. It is no small feat to arrange a show that draws thousands of toy dealers and collectors from across North America and around the world.
This issue marks the third anniversary of Toy Tractor Times.com on-line coverage of The National Farm Toy Show. This year not only do we have a vast array of pictures from the National, but also new video of the show and the displays.
Our video feature on the National Display Contest should interest you in this month’s issue, and you’ll see more in the next two editions of the Times. The new video feature gives viewers a 360 degree tour of the display, just as if you were walking through the model farm. Pictures of displays are great, but they always leave you wondering what is just outside the image. Now you get the grand tour of some of the best farm displays around. Up first is 2005 National Farm Toy Show winner John Schomburg. In December we will feature second place winners J&S Farm Toy Display followed by third place Adam Suntken in January 2006.
There was plenty of new toy news from the National. Ertl and Spec-Cast had several surprises on hand that we previewed in the November Toy Tractor Show.com Farm Toy Report live from the National. Die-Cast Promotions is also expanding its 1/64 offerings with a new Big Roy 1080 from Toy Farmer And a Rite 750 from Long Creek Toys. This month’s issue will feature many of the new toys with lots of close up pictures. Collectors are particularly excited about the new Ertl Key Precision John Deere 3020 with 48 loader. We have lots of pictures of this model with the loader on and off in the Precision article. Look for a feature article on Spec-Cast’s latest introductions.

This was Stefanie’s first time attending the National Show. She enjoyed meeting so many people. I could not do it with out her. She did a great job managing the Toy Tractor Times.com table. We even had readers stop by and say hello from Denmark, France and all the way from Australia. She loved everyone, but her heart was truly won over by the two new Dachshund puppies we got in Dyersville. Their names are Freda and Joanna. Little does she know the ERTL brothers are Fred and Joe.
Stef and I both would like to than Steve Stotts “Car Guy” for helping out at the table on Sunday during the show. It allowed us to get out and see the show. Steve is a Ford Car Salesman and his talents extend to farm toys as Sunday sales were up.
We both enjoyed visiting with so many of you at the 5th Annual Toy Tractor Show.com dinner during the National. It was a great evening for people to talk toys and share ideas. We had several door prize winners who won prizes donated by Donated Gordy Schultz and The Toy Tractor Times. The prizes included 1/64 tractors, trucks, a John Deere harvesting set, several Toy Tractor Times DVD’s and the grand prize of a 1/16 Toy Tractor Times Case Spirit of ’76 1570.
I am pleased to announce a new feature on the website. A new on-line Toy Tractor Times.com store is now available. You can order the new Video of the Times DVD at the store and the Toy Tractor Times Anniversary Tractor. The new DVD is 1 hour long and has all of the 2005 Toy Tractor Times Mini-Movies from 2005, the real farming videos and a complete history of The Toy Tractor Times Tractors. The DVD is only $10 and makes a great stocking stuffer for Christmas.
As we enter the Christmas season we ask that all of our readers consider sharing the farm toy hobby with those less fortunate. Check out your favorite on-line Farm Toy Dealers clearance page or your local dealer’s sale bin and purchase some new farm toys to donate to Toys For Tots. This is a great way to celebrate the Christmas Spirit of Giving.
Next month we will take a look at the best toys of 2005 and look forward to 2006. Tell us what your favorite tractor or farm toy for 2005 was on Toy Talk.
Until the Next Times..............
Jay & Stef
Special Thanks…..
