Another National Farm Toy Show has come and gone. The November Toy Tractor Times for the second year brings you full coverage of the big show. This issue features the displays, new toys and sights of the big show. Our goal is to bring the show to those who can not attended and encourage our readers to make the trip some day. The National is unlike any other farm toy show. It takes over the entire town of Dyersville, Iowa for three days. There are new toy surprises to see, tractors to buy and sell as well as friendships to make and renew. The Toy Tractor Times table is set up each year in the National Farm Toy Museum Gymnasium. T.T.T takes anniversary tractor orders, subscriptions and re-newels through out the weekend. It is a great chance for me to meet and talk with customers from across the country.
Toy Tractor Times Table In The National Farm Toy Museum The Toy Tractor Times Anniversary Series Tractors are part of the National Farm Toy Museum Collection and the 2003 20th Anniversary 1973 Allis-Chalmers 7030 was donated to the museum by T.T.T founder Rick Larsen to complete the set for another year. The set includes every T.T.T tractor from 1986-2003, look for the 2004 IH 1086 to join the museum collection at the 2005 National Toy Show.
Complete Collection of Toy Tractor Times Anniversary Tractors at the National Farm Toy Museum We also had our 4th Annual Toy Tractor Show.com dinner on Saturday night of the national. This was our 4th year at the Country Junction Restaurant next to the high school. Over 50 T.T.S members attended this years dinner. It is a great way to talk toys and meet T.T.S members. The 5th Annual dinner will be held at the Country Junction again during the 2005 National. I hope you can attend, we plan to make the dinner more exciting with door prizes and some other surprises.
4th Annual Toy Tractor Show.com Dinner at the Country Junction Restaurant Next month T.T.T will take a look at the top new toys of 2004. We will look back at the major releases of 2004 and our authors favorites. We will also have a big announcement in the December that will be a major surprise for one of our readers. Stay tuned. Don Campbell's Website
By Jason Hasert
I met Don and Debbie Campbell at the 2001 National Farm Toy Show. I was introduced to them by Gordy Schultz and quickly became interested in Don's work with steel. That Saturday evening Don and Debbie took my word that a nice group of people from an internet website called ToyTractorShow.com were going to get together for dinner. Not knowing anyone but Gordy they came. For four years now Don and Debbie have been a main stay of T.T.S Dinner. I have valued the friendship of Don and Debbie. When we first met it turned out we had more in common than toy tractors. Their daughter Nicole and son-in-law Bill lived in Washington, D.C were I worked at the time. Because of that connection Don and Debbie visited me and Washington and became a big part of Toy Tractor Show.com website sharing projects and ideas. Don builds all kinds of farm and construction models. His main focus is on large scales raging from 1/16 to 1/8. Many of his pieces are done in 1/12 scale with one going as big as 1/4. Don has built several 4wd tractor, combines and other harvesters. In recent years he has also had a large focus on classic and modern construction equipment.
Don Campbell a builder of steel modelsDon's daughter Nicole built him a website of his own as a present. The website is www.doncampbellmodels.com. Over the past few years Don has built a great net work of friends through his website. There have been over 500,000 visitors to the site from around the world. Don has pictures of all of steel models projects on the website. They range from 1/32 scale to 1/4 scale. There are all sorts of agriculture models and big construction pieces.
Don Campbell travels to see extreme machines
Don Campbell's 1/12 scale steel CAT D11R One of the most interesting parts of the websites is the main page. Visitors are greeted by updates of Don's current projects and travels. You can watch Don build a 1/8th scale Big Bud from steel and see him sail on a 1,000 ft Great Lakes ship. Don has traveled to see mega earth movers and other interesting machines. All of them are photographed on the website and many have been recreated as a steel model by Don. You never know what the next big project will be. After seeing Don's 1/8th Big Bud I have wonder how big his next model will be.
Don Campbell with Gordy Schultz and Mike Doctor at the 2004 NationalDon and Debbie cherish the friendships they have made over the years with their involvement in the farm toy hobby. Many of those friendships have been started and renewed at the National Farm Toy Show. There is a special section on www.doncampbellmodels.com featuring all the people Don and Debbie saw at the 2004 National. Check out Don's website, you may see a few people you know. | About The Cover: The National Display Contest is always a big draw and very popular topic with our readers. This years Big Show cover features Jason Jeffers and John Sampson's display. Jason and Jon re-created a real North Dakota grain and sugar beat farm down to every piece of equipment used on the farm. This required allot of scratch building to match to real farm piece to piece. The two friends scratch built a 1/64 Massey-Ferguson 860 combine for this display. Their partnership and building efforts are a prime example of the work that goes into the National Display Contest. That is why this combine was chosen for this months cover. |
