21st Anniversary Tractor The Toy Tractor Times Anniversary Tractor series continues in 2004 with the 1977 International 1086. This collectors edition die-cast tractor is produced by Ertl of Dyersville, Iowa for The Toy Tractor Times under license of CaseIH.. With a special inscription printed onto the model, donating it as the 2004 Anniversary edition, the 1086 will serve as the 21st Anniversary for The Toy Tractor Times Magazine. The 1086 is the second tractor in the five piece Big 70s Power Series from the Toy Tractor Times. The first Big 70s Power tractor was the 1973 Allis-Chalmers 7030. The Anniversary Series began on TTT's third anniversary in 1986 and includes a total of 19 tractors. TTT's 20041086 has new features not found on past 1/16 models. It uses the precision IH 1466 rear dual rims and Good Year tires as well as the individual IH front weights. Special cab detail painting adds the black door posts to the side of the cab instead of the all white plastic used on past toys. The interior is also painted black just like the real tractor and the floor is painted red. Underneath the cab new flood light decals add another touch of realism. The drivers seat is red to indicate the deluxe IH option. The front tires are large flotation style. Each model will come complete with a specially designed collectors box with appropriate identification and historical write-up on the International 1086. |

Ertl has offered the 86 series International tractors in 1/16 since 1977. Ertl introduced 1/16 replicas of the 1586, 1086 and 886 in the late 70's. The 1586 offered a cab and rear duals, the 1086 was a standard row crop tractor and the 886 offered IH's new 4 post ROPS. In 1981 the 1086 and 886 were replaced by the 5288 and 5088 in Ertls toy line. The 1586 remained in production through 1992 with several row crop and loader variations. Ertl revived 86 series in 2003 with the release of a 1981 Tri-Stripe 986 with a loader and a 1980 Red Power 1486. The Toy Tractor Times has gone back to 1977 to offer an Ertl Replica of the original International 1086. This is the first collectors edition of the IH 86 series. Ertl has done a nice job adding paint detailing to the cab and Precision features with IH duals, Good Year Tires and 12 individual IH front weights. The most popular IH tractor of the 1970s truly has a whole new look in 1/16 scale.

Why the 1977 International for the 21st Anniversary of The Toy Tractor Times? In 2003 when TTT started the Big 70s Power Series our goal was to highlight the big iron from 1970-1979. The International 86 series is one of the most innovative and well known tractor lines of the decade. The International 1086 was a farmer favorite and is known as the Farmall M of the 70's. It offered modern power at 131 hp and comfort with its computerized IH Control Center Cab. A total of 47,420 1086 tractors were sold between 1977-1981. That was 26,000 more tractors than the next best selling 1486. The IH 1086 was also the 2 millionth tractor built at the Farmall Works since the factory was opened.

| History
from Ken Updike author of International Harvester Tractors
1955-1985: In September of
1976, IH invited all of its ag dealers to its Chicago headquarters for
the unveiling of the IH 86 series Pro-Ag line. Thus totally new
look in farming: A new tractor built with operator's comfort in
mind and built for the professional agri-businessman.
The new 86 series included six models: 85 hp 886, 100 hp 986, 131 hp 1086, 145 hp 1486 and 161 hp 1586. A hydro-static model, the 186 was also available. |

The 86 series retained the same basic grille, hoods, proven engine and
drive train as the previous 66 series, but it featured a totally new cab
called the Control Center. Engine and Transmission: The only basic difference between the 1086 and the larger 86 series tractors is its power. It has a turbocharged IH DT-414 diesel engine that delivers a 25% torque rise at 80% of the rated engine RPM; its Torque Amplifier transmission provides 16 forward speeds. (IH is stamped right into the TTT 1086 engine, just like the real thing)

Center Cab:
The major feature of the 86 series was the cab. With this totally
new cab, the operator still had two cab doors for entry to either
side. The total glass area increased to 43.2 square feet, with
scoop type opening side windows and a large rear opening window.
The cab featured a built in protective frame (ROPS) that exceeded SAE
and OSHA standards. But, perhaps its major feature was that the
operator sat 1.5 feat farther forward than in past IH tractors.
This new configuration provided a smoother ride and easier entry and
exit. IH marketed the new cab as the Quiet-Plus. The two
double-wall automotive-type doors had heavy rubber seals on them to keep
dirt and noise out. A rear mounted cab filter self cleaned every time
the cab doors were shut. Optional equipment included a choice of
AM-FM-CB radio, tape players and a hydraulic suspended seat.
The use of electronics had reached the farm when IH offered a digital data center module in the Control Center cab. This dash mounted control box gave the operator instant digital readouts of the engine rpm, power take off rpm, exhaust gas temperature and travel speed. The 86 series also used modular, plug in type instrument cluster gauges, for fuel, voltmeter, oil pressure and engine temperature. |
