Best 64th of 2004
It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year already. It’s time to review this year’s favorite tractors.
The 2004 farm show John Deere 9620 with its wide duals was one of the most talked about toys of the year.

Another 4wd that made a big impression in 1/64 was Scale Models Buhler-Versatile. This model came with a variety of decals that ranged from 290 hp to 425 hp.

Ertl also offered a Buhler-Genesis this year. The Buhler-Genesis replaces the blue New Holland Genesis with traditional Versatile colors. Ertl offered decals from 145 hp to 210 hp for the Genesis replica.

One of the many sets released this year was the Farmall 100/200/300/400 set. This set brought memories back to my dad to when he used to run them on the farm when he was growing up. Ertl did a nice job detailing these models.

Two John Deere sets were also released this past year. The first set is the 200th birthday of John Deere ten piece set. This set takes a look at ten milestones during the 200 year history of John Deere. The set includes the steel wheeled Waterloo Boy, an unstyled D, and an unstyled G on rubber. A styled B and a 730 round out the first five models in this set. The second half of the set starts with every body’s favorite tractor the wide front 4020. A 4430 and 4450 sound-gard tractor, a FWA 8400 and a 9520 four-wheel drive round out this nicely detail set.

The major variations include the new unstyled D. The last unstyled D came in the original historical set from the 70’s. The previous release was a styled D.

The 4430 now has wide front tires and the 4450 has new duals tires to replace the duals from the older version.

The 8400 decal has been updated.

Lastly, the unstyled G in this set has a green steering wheel where as the previous release came with a black steering wheel. A new model to this set is a 9520.
The 2nd set is the John Deere Water Works set of six tractors. This set replicates the twenty series tractors manufactured by John Deere over the last few years.

A variation in this set includes dual wheels and cab glass on the 9620.

A 7920 and a 7520 are two new models added to this set.

Both of these sets have a special chrome plated dealer edition set to accompany them.
John Deere also had another exciting new toy with the 1/64 4920 Self Propelled sprayer with a 120 ft boom. A dry fertilizer 4920 has been announced by Ertl for 2005.

Another hot toy of the year is the Case International STX 500.

Case International is also offering some nice classics in 1/64 like this new Farmall 450 from Ertl.

Long Creek Farm Toys offered two classic 4wds in 2004. The Woods & Copeland 301C and 320C. These models are two different castings of 4wds well known in rice country. Long Creek plans to introduce a ROME 4wd next.

Lastly for this year the new grain carts are a long awaited welcome for many miniature farms. These highly detailed wagons replace Ertl’s old grain carts and generic wagons.
