N.X. Dairy Farms
By Brian Ramel
N.X Dairy it based on the farm that I plan on running one
day. Along with trying to be as realistic as possible, I also consider
it to be a fantasy farm. Because it's most likely there wont be this
much equipment on this sized farm in real life. I'm not the only one who
built this display. My two brothers Steven and Matt also help with
putting equipment in field and doing the field work like making hay
rows. We all work as a team to bring N.X. Dairy to life. I build all the
buildings my self. I've learned so much from pictures on TTS and Toy
talk that it just comes natural on how to build things. Granted things
always change after I get done building something and I want to do it
different. About The Farm Owned and managed by Brian, Steven and
Matt Ramel with the aid of 12 other full-time workers N.X Diary is
located in Random Lake WI. The Farm currently milks 400 cows in a double
15 Westfaila Surge Milking parlor. Milk is pumped straight into the semi tankers after it is run through a
pre-cooler and the temperature is brought down to 35 degrees. The cows
are milked 3 times a day and all the milk is shipped to Cedarburg or
Fondulac WI with DFA. Heifer calves are all raised on the farm the farm
and bulls are sold at the local Lomira Cattle action. Cows are tested on
a daily basis for milk weight and average 85-lb. of milk per cow
N.X. Dairy runs 5300 acres of land. 1200 haylage, 1300 corn silage. 1500
High moisture corn and 1200 soybeans. The Custom Chopping Crews.
N.X Dairy is also part of a large Custom Crop harvesting operation. N.X.
Dairy runs 2 7800 Self-propelled choppers and 1 6910. All Choppers have
15ft hay heads and the 7800s are equipped with 8 row kremper heads. The
6910 has a 6 row narrow corn head. The Farm Chops hay and corn silage
for 20 other local farms. There are 5 semi Tractors 3 Peterbuilts and 2
Kenworths on 4, 40 dump trailers and 1 32-ft. trailer. 4 miler pro
Wagons all have roofs removed and specialized running gears. 2 Truck
mounted and
2 pulled by a JD 7710 and JD 7820. And a Badger pulled by a JD 8420 with
2 other Straight trucks.
The farm uses 2 New Holland Self-propelled discbines with 18ft
platforms. A MX 200 with a front mounted CHI discbine and a pull
behind discbine and a CHI 8830 Self-propelled swatter are used to stay a
head of the choppers. After the hay is cut 2 H+S twin merger and 1
Single merger put hay rows together to try and slow down the choppers.
Packing is done by a MX 270 with rear triples and a JD 9400 with triples
and JD 9220 with duals all mounted with 16-ft. Delgman blades
Custom Combining: N.X Dairy also does custom combining
for 25 farms. Combines being currently run are a 2166 with 25ft. grain
Header and 8 row. 2388 with 30ft. Header and 12 corn head. A new AFX
8010 is on the way to replace the 2166. The semis and Straight trucks
are all used to keep up with the combines. A 1084 Brent Avalanche cart
and 2 C&J carts are used to keep up with the
combines. All corn for the farm is combined at 21-28% moisture for high
moisture corn. The corn is then ran through a roller mill and blown into
two 60ft. Stave silos and 2 90ft. Harvesters. All Soybeans are roasted
and stored in the farm's 80,000 bushel Grain system.
Manure is stored in a 300,000-gallon reception pit and a 10,000-gallon
Blazer pulled by a TJ 375 hauls manure to the fields. After that a JD
9220 with a 2700 sub-soiler will follow and work in the manure, or a STX
400 with MRX 960. Either way both are following the combines and
Choppers. It's a fun but very sloppy job.
Cows are fed with a Knight mixer and a Jay-Lor Vertical mixer. Before
the next feeding the old feed is pushed out and loaded into a knight
manure spreader and hauled away. Due to exceptional feed management
practices there is very little feed wasted.
The best part of building this display was the barn Building and Milking
parlor. You can't see it in the pictures but the stalls in the milking
parlor raise and lower, and the crowd gate raises and lowers and moves
forward and backward. Free stalls are sand bedded and stalls are groomed
every day. Sand is refilled every 4-5 days.
Plans for the Future. The managers at N.X. dairy are currently
looking at expanding their head to 800 cows. Some day they would like to
have a 2000 to 4000 cow operation were all the cows would be milked in a
80 stall Westfialla Surge Rotary Milking Parlor. The Managers also have
plans in the making for a 3,500,000-gallon lagoon system. This would
enable the farm to have enough manure storage for a year. Along with
adding the lagoon 2 or 3 9,500-gallon Houles would be added to help keep
the manure moving out to the field.
We hope you've enjoyed your tour of N.X Dairy Farms
