Oliver 660 Pedal Tractor

Rodeney Cover has under taken a classic Oliver project.  The new Oliver 660 pedal tractor was on display at the 2004 St. Louis Toy Show.   The 660 is not a repainted Oliver 77 or 88 pedal.  Rodney used an Auto-Cad computer program to create the tractor and then took the design to a foundry and had the tractors casting poured.  This unique model is polished off with car body quality paint job.  The tractor even has a serial plate on the side.  For the interested Oliver or general pedal collector Rodney plans to make 100 660's.

The first question many people would ask is why does this pedal tractor not look like the Oliver 770 and 880?  The 770 and 880 were introduced in 1958 to replace the Super 77 and 88.   The new models offered a new valve in head design that required new sheet metal.  The new look was squared off compared to the older rounded Olivers.  The tractor colors also changed from Oliver clover green and yellow and red trim.  The new tractor colors were green and white.   Oliver 660 tractors were introduced in 1959 and remained in production through 1964.  This model was an evolutionary progression from the Super 66 rather than a totally new model like the 770 and 880.   The 660 was built with gasoline and diesel engine options.   The four cylinder motor carried a 3 5/8  x 3 3/4 inch bore and stroke with a governed speed of 2,000 rpm.
