1988 TTT Minneapolis-Moline V
From the start The Toy Tractor Times goal for its anniversary series was to create an interesting line of 1/16 scale tractors. Part of the projects theme has always been producing historic tractors that will help build the hobby. To many modern TTT readers the small horse power series may not seem all that exciting compared to the big 225-250 hp tractors of today. The early TTT tractors are historically important and have lead to the modern advanced tractors we all like to collect.
This month we look at the Minneapolis-Moline V. The V was developed by the B.F. Avery & Sons tractor company. On March 1, 1951 B.F Avery was aquired by Minneapolis-Moline. The Louisville, KY company had a 125 year history in the farm industry. Avery introduced the model V in 1946 and Minneapolis-Moline produced the 9 hp tractor through 1952. With Tru-Draft matched implements that operated at pre-set depth, extra-cool running high compression engine, hydrualic Tru-Mate tool control, adjustable front axle, and Quick-On-Quick-Off tool mounting, the Minneapolis-Moline V was the ideal tractor for small farm operations. Specifications of the V were as follows: 8-24 tires, one 14" plow capacity, Hercules engine with 64.9 cu. in. weight of 1612 lbs. As Minneapolis-Moline literature stated - low first cost ... low fuel consumption ... lower tool cost ...longer tractor life - you save all all four ways with the MM V tractor. Minneapolis-Moline marketed the V as BIG tractor performance with small tractor economy! MM V farmers get full one-plow power for a complete farming job.
The Minneapolis-Moline V was the third Toy Tractor Times Tractor. This model celebrated the magazines 5th year serving the farm toy. The 1988 anniversary tractor was again produced by Pioneer Collectibles. After Rick and Linda Larsen, the founders of TTT, secured licensing from White-New Idea, Pioneer went to work on its most detailed model. The Minneapolis-Moline V is a basic tractor like many of the small horse power tractors of the 1940's and 50's. The TTT MM V offered a Hercules engine, battery box, transmission, gearshift, antique tractor seat, shell fenders, lighting, cultivator type frame and steering. The most interesting detail is that the TTT V sits on 8-24 Firestone tires. The model has authentic V graphics and is packaged in a Minneapolis-Moline gold box. The Minneapolis-Moline V from TTT sells for $70 on average.
