In June 1995 The Toy Tractor Times Magazine announced that the second Classic American Series Anniversary Tractor would be an IH Farmall 706. Rick Larsen T.T.T. founder wrote in Toy Times Comments: The year was 1963 and International Harvester decided to make some exciting new changes in its tractor line with the introduction of the Farmall 706. The all new tractor featured a completely redesigned body, power train, and hydraulic system. The memories of 1963 are soon to be relived with the 1995 Toy Tractor Times Anniversary tractor. The all new 1/16 replica produced by Ertl for T.T.T, will feature all die cast rims, steerable wide front end, ROPS, silver muffler, white seat, and black cap nuts. The die cast model with special T.T.T inscription, will come with a specail box with appropriate identification The Farmall 706 was a special tractor to Rick because he owned one. It was also the first time the new Ertl 706 casting was offered by Ertl since the original 706 toy was offered at IH dealers in the 1960s. In 1963 the 706 was a powerful new offering by International. After some set backs with reliability with the 460, in 1948 and the 1960 introduction of the John Deere 3010, IH needed a bold new tractor. The 706 was the answer for IH and it became an American Classic.
Toy Tractor Times Anniversary 1995
The 706 was big, fast and dependable, satisfying farmer's demands for power and economy, while offering plenty of comfort. Low-friction, multi-range engines produced more horsepower per cubic inch. It offered 72.4 hp with an IH diesel engine, 73.8 with an IH gasoline engine and 73.6 horse power with LP gas. With the 706 a higher percentage of engine power was available and IH 2-point and 3-point hitches made the most of that power. New speeds, new TA reduction provided better working rates. Torsion Bar sensing provided a weight transfer traction control system that worked so fast it literally allowed the 706 to get the farmer out of trouble before he knew he had gotten into it. Hydraulic power steering, power shift independent PTO engaged and disengaged with out slowing down, dual 540 and 1000 pto and a dyna life clutch all made the 706 a real worker. Even after 41 years in the field the IH 706 is still racking up thousands of hours on farms across North America. IH designed the 706 to last a life time and it has become an American Classic.
