New At The Fall Farm Show

New Claas-Omaha Lexion 590R Combine with 16 row 30 inch Corn Head

The 2004 Farm Progress Show was another big success for tractor and equipment makers.   The latest machines made their debuts and field trials.   This month I would like to highlight some of the new literature that was at the show.

With out a doubt the star of the 2004 show was the new Lexion 590R combine.  Every one was talking about this new combine.   It is the first Class 9 harvester with a 360 bu. grain tank,  462 hp CAT engine with a power boost to 501 hp and the new combine can handle a 16 row 30 inch corn head and 40ft grain head.  The new 590R is an acre eater.  At this time the 590R is only available on tires, although Claas expects to introduce a tracked model in the next year.   The staff at the Lexion tent at the Farm Progress Show mentioned a 1/32 and 1/87 500 series Lexion farm toy would be released soon.

AGCO was also making a strong push for its new R-75 Gleaner Combine and Massey Ferguson 9790 combine.   AGCO's theme is tough working combines, glean grain and easy service.   The Gleaner R-75 is a class 8 combine with a 330 hp Cummins engine.  Gleaners Natural Flow rotary system provides a superior sample behind a 12 row corn head.   Massey-Ferguson's 9790 is an Axial-Style rotary that is ready to rubble against the John Deere 9760 STS, CaseIH 2388 and Lexion 570.  Fewer working parts means less wear and tear and more grain in the 300 bu. grain tank.  AGCO is marketing the 330 hp MF as a dependable machine that can out pace the competition.

AGCO also debuted its new central fill White planter.  Bulk fill planters have become a popular way to cross more acres with out re-filling.   The White planter is one of the most respected corn planters in the industry.  The new White 8000 planters offer five planting options from a 12/23 split planter up to a 16/31 split planter.

New Holland had a large presence in the field demonstrations.   The key items were the CR970 combine, new ST series disk, TJ 425 4wd and TG 285.  With a strong frame, its tandem design, precise depth control, and a typical weight per blade between 150-175 pounds per blade with 9-inch spacing, or 120-140 pounds with 7.5-inch spacing, the ST440 is made for creating a smooth seed bed.  New Holland is made a good case for its tractors and tillage implements at the field demonstration.
